Thanks for checking our blog after the first day of school. I think we had a really great first day of fifth grade, I hope your student feels the same way.
Below is a quick run-down of what we accomplished today... thanks for reviewing your child's school day with them as often as you have the chance.
Today we:
- Reviewed our class rules and guidelines (see: previous blog entry and send-home sheet)
- Set our norms: pay attention; talk only when appropriate; raise your hand; don't distract yourself or others from learning; always be ready to review your learning
- Reviewed school-wide playground expectations
- Read The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe chapters 1-2 together
- Previewed/reviewed selected literary devices (all caps, italics, quotations/dialog, em-dash); previewed and read The Night of the Spadefoot Toad in pair-share groups
- Attended an all fifth-grade assembly to review expectations, fieldtrips, and cell phone use
- Completed and presented a Story of Your Name writing/drawing activity
